The Ultimate House Cleaning Checklist

Living in a clean house is one of the most important things in the world and we all need to work hard towards making sure our homes are as clean as possible. Naturally, we can’t clean for hours every single day, but doing so frequently is the key towards a spotless house. The problem with most people, however, isn’t the lack of energy or willingness to clean regularly, but the inability to get organized adequately – they spend too much time on unimportant things and ultimately don’t manage to cover all the important areas. Therefore, here’s a detailed checklist that could help you organize and make this job much easier.

Spring cleaning

Spring is the season most people love because it means the long and cold winter is finally over, but the others aren’t such big fans because spring also means it’s time for spring cleaning. This is a long and tiring process, but it’s still something you need to do, so start doing it soon and get it over with.

Spring cleaning includes dozens of chores and you need to set aside some time for each one if you want your house to be spotless. So, start by dusting, vacuuming, cleaning the windows, touching up the wall paint and deep cleaning the floors, and then move onto more tiring and boring things such as sweeping the chimney, cleaning the oven, disinfecting door knobs, polishing cabinets and cleaning inside your washing machine, dryer and dishwasher.

Monthly cleaning

Once you’re done with spring cleaning, it’s your job to maintain that hygiene by doing one thing or another every day of the week. However, doing some chores, such as cleaning your windows, decluttering your closet, organizing your pantry, rotating your mattress, on a monthly basis is quite enough. However, some of these chores need more time and care, and cleaning the floors and rugs is one of them.

No matter the flooring in your house, you need to maintain and clean it regularly if you want to protect your family from hazardous dust particles that might not seem like a big deal at first, but can seriously endanger your health. That’s why you need to purchase only quality rugs made from natural materials, but also make sure you clean them adequately. Use home-made products that contain no harmful chemicals and artificial ingredients, and be sure to open all your windows when deep cleaning your rugs.

Weekly cleaning

Luckily, not all tedious chores need to be performed every single day, and you can leave some of these for your free Saturday morning. Things like disinfecting your kitchen countertops, polishing faucets and sinks, scrubbing bathroom floors, disinfecting the toilet, cleaning the mirrors, cleaning the inside of your microwave and scrubbing the bathtub, will take no more than an hour or two, but will give your entire house a healthier and more inviting look.

Remember: you don’t have to do much, but you have to establish a sustainable schedule that will prevent your home from appearing unhygienic and unappealing. Only by doing something small week after week will you be able to show yourself, your family and your guests that your house can be tidy, clean, organized and decluttered, and that it doesn’t really take that much work to keep things that way.

Daily cleaning

Now, this is the hardest part of the entire cleaning process because these are the things you literally have to do every single day! Not all of them require that much time and energy – some can, moreover, be done within seconds – but repetition is the key and only by doing these things over and over again will reach success. Moreover, if you always do something, your house will gradually get a certain glow that doesn’t go away that easily.

What are some of the things you need to do daily? In the kitchen, it’s all about washing the dishes, taking out the trash, cleaning the surfaces and putting everything you use back to the cupboard. In the bathroom, you need to wipe down the shower after every use, clean around the toilet bowl – not after every use, but at least once a day – and put the dirty laundry into the appropriate basket. If it’s your laundry day, remember to fold your clothes and return them to the closet instead of leaving them in your bathroom or laundry room. Finally, the bedroom and living room don’t require that much attention, but don’t forget to put away everything that leads to unnecessary clutter and, of course, make the bed as soon as you wake up in the morning.

Adopting this sort of a schedule will help you keep your home organized and tidy at the same time, and that’s, ultimately, what all of us are really dreaming of. Try to persevere in this mission and you’ll just love the results!
