What is Asthma and When Should you Worry about It?
There are a lot of people who don't know much about asthma symptoms and I think it is very important to say a few words about it and I will tell you exactly why I feel this way. Maybe you just suffer from small flu, so, in this case, do you need a vacuum more sophisticated for real? Should you pay more for a product just because it sounds great? My personal opinion is no.
But if you do have asthma, then you must do your house cleaning most professionally and invest in, might I say, hospital grade vacuum cleaners.
According to medical dictionaries, Asthma is a disease in which the airways are narrowed and expanded in such a way that they produce more mucus than they normally would. Because of this breathing is more difficult, triggering coughing and shortness of inhalation.
Unfortunately, asthma can't be healed, but the symptoms can be controlled. This is why "best vacuums for allergies and asthma 2019" was such a hit in searches all over the world. In this kind of disease, keeping the symptoms in control is vital for the quality of life.
So, if you have periodically shortness of breath, chest pains, you are coughing or wheezing, it is not only time to schedule a visit to the doctor but also to upgrade your cleaning appliances. You can start by checking HEPA vacuums for sale and move from there until you find the most suitable one for you.
What Makes a Hypoallergenic Vacuum Cleaner to be Different?
It is not news if I say that pet hair is not very helpful if you have any sort of breathing allergies, but furry friends are such a joy in our lives, so it would be a pity not to be able to have such a companion. Luckily, today there are so many best vacuum for allergies and pet hair options that allow you to have a normal life even in such conditions.
I can say, and probably everyone can agree, that the best vacuum cleaners for pet hair are hypoallergenic ones because they have filters created in such a way that they can retain more than 99% of particles that they absorb.
This characteristic can't be found in normal vacuum cleaners, meaning that a regular vac will not be capable of retaining very fine dust and therefore many of the allergens which are simply too small for their capabilities.
The most performant filter you can find today is known as "HEPA" and I am sure this is not the first time you hear about this term. But what does HEPA mean? Well, the term stands for 'High-Efficiency Particulate Air' and is applied to filters that can catch 99.97% of 0.3 microns particles.
This means that even basic EN 1822 certified HEPA vacuum cleaners will increase the quality of life. However, today there are very modern hypoallergenic vacuums that use a system based on four primary components:
- The closing output filter, which is usually a HEPA one;
- The motor with a fan or an impeller assembly;
- A secondary particle filter that is used to protect the motor assembly;
- The primary filter is a bag, a cup or a wet filter bucket, depending on the vacuum cleaner model.
So, let’s not linger any more on this aspect and see some exact products that were considered to be among the best vacuum for allergies 2018 and found themselves again among the best HEPA vacuum 2019 models. I mention this because, even if something scientifically crazy will be released in 2020, I am sure that they will still be just as appreciated this year as well.

Best Vacuum Cleaner for Allergies Sufferers Reviews 2020
Here are the full reviews for the models I have selected for this article. You will see all the positive parts and also the negative ones each vacuum cleaner has. This way, you will know what to expact.
When I started testing multiple vacuum cleaners to see which ones are the most efficient for people suffering from allergies, I had a lot of people asking me what is the best Shark vacuum for allergies.
Probably, if asked, many users will say it is either the Shark Rotator Pro complete lift-away (nv552) or the Shark Navigator Lift-away Professional nv356e but for me, it is definitely the NV352 model and I will tell you exactly why is this.
So, this Shark Navigator Vacuum is suitable for both carpets and hard floors. Also, it comes with a tool for pet hair, a HEPA filter and last, but not least, an anti-allergy seal.
This model has very powerful suction, but it can be adjusted based on the floor type you need to clean.
It is a bagless model that comes with a dust cup with a capacity of 1.1 quarts. To remove it, you simply have to press a button and lift the canister away.
Even though it is very powerful, this Shark Navigator Upright Vacuum model is a very portable and easy maneuver one. This means that you can easily move around furniture or corners.
- Good value for money;
- Great suction power;
- HEPA filters.
- It doesn’t have any light;
- Not the best for pet hair.

2. BLACK & DECKER HCUA525JA
I truly believe that if you are looking for the best deal when it comes to hypoallergenic vacuum cleaners, there is no better pick than the HCUA525JA model from BLACK & DECKER.
First of all, you should know that for a very decent price, for this category of products, this one is a versatile type containing a normal upright vacuum cleaning and a grab & go removable canister.
What I find very interesting about it, is its dust compactor that works in such a way to allow more filth to get into the canister and therefore it means you will have to empty it less often.
This vacuum cleaner can be used on both hard floors and thick carpets and the great thing regarding this aspect is that it has an auto-sense meaning it will adjust its suction automatically when moving from a floor type to another.
Since I am at the smart part of the vacuum cleaner, I think it is time to say that this BLACK & DECKER model will notify you when it is about to run out of battery but also when it will be time to clean its filter.
Lastly, when you order it, you will get lots of accessories such as a crevice tool or a 6-inch nozzle.
- 3-in-1 accessory tool;
- Captures more than 99% of dust particles;
- Great value for money.
- Some problems with the wheels may occur.
3. Housmile 80
(Best for Mattresses)
Everybody loves the feeling of their own bed and of course, we all want to keep it as sanitary as possible. So, in this situation, the question of choosing the best dust mite mattress vacuum rises.
I have tested multiple models and in the end, my decision was simplified after using the Housmile 80 vac, so let me tell you why this is.
Before moving further with the review, I want to specifically say that this model is for eliminating mites and not incorporating dust. So, don't misinterpret its capabilities.
Now that we have clarified this, let me tell you how it works. It has a 253.7nm UV sterilization tube and uses high-temperature hot air (55℃). Due to this, it will kill all mites, bed bugs or other bacteria at a rate of more than 99%.
Moreso, this vac uses HEPA filters for its filtration. This means it has everything you need for a healthy bed.
The way it works is that it has excellent collaboration between a high-frequency vibration of 3800 times/min and a double powerful suction (8.5KPa). So, with this combo, it will attract the mites from both the upper and the base side of the bed.
- Very lightweight and easy to use;
- Great results;
- HEPA filters.
- It doesn’t have the best support team.
4. Bissell Cleanview 47R51
(Best for Couches)
Since I just added a mite cleaning vacuum cleaner review for a model I think does wonders when it comes to sanitizing your mattress, it is time to see a model for your couch.
This one comes from Bissell and has a dust cup capacity of 0.78 liters. It is very lightweight and easy to maneuver. Moreso, It has a very straightforward mechanism for emptying the dust cup.
It has enough suction power to remove hair fibers and dirt from your couch, stairs, upholstery and even cars. Even if it is not so obvious for a hand model, this little fellow comes with an 18 feet power cord which will permit you to move around with ease.
Lastly, it comes with some attachments such as a crevice tool, hose, and a wide mouth tool.
- Good value for money;
- Easy to use.
- Not the best for pet hair.

5. iRobot Roomba 960
I am a fan of anything gadgety, so it was impossible for me not to add a robot to this list.
After checking out multiple models, I elected the iRobot Roomba 960 to complete the HEPA vacuum discussion.
When looking at older series Roomba has to offer such as the 600 one, iRobot Roomba 960 has 5 times more power and suction, permitting intensified dirt picking performance.
This little fellow knows how to create draw smart maps so it will know exactly where it needs to go. However, keep in mind that this is possible for just a floor level.
It has the mapping capacity due to its iAdapt 2.0 technology that is licensed and registered. Also, it has a vSLAM navigation system that actively picks thousands of precise measurements every millisecond.
Moreso, it has 3 cleaning system stages that will identify and pick up pet hair fibers and dust particles.
When you order the iRobot Roomba 960 you will receive a dual rubber brush which will work on multiple surfaces and which can flex and work on both hardwood floors and carpets.
Last, but most certainly not least, this robot allows you to connect it to WiFi.
- Works with Alexa and Google Assistant;
- Great filter system;
- Very satisfying results.
- It doesn’t come cheap.
You can check out the next video made by iRobot for its 900 series and see more of this Roomba's features:
6. Dyson V8 Cordless Stick Vacuum Cleaner
It is time to check out a Dyson asthma allergy vacuum and the first one I want to talk about is one of their cordless versions.
You might be inclined to think that if it's a cordless version is not worthy of your time, but let me tell you otherwise. First of all, this vacuum cleaner has a very powerful suction (115 AW) and can work without charging for up to 40 minutes when working with a non motorized tool.
This Dyson vacuum cleaner is extremely lightweight and easy to maneuver. Therefore it will permit you to clean your house without too much trouble. It has an instant release function that will allow it to use its battery when it is actually on.
Since this is an article regarding hypoallergenic vacuum cleaners it is self-explanatory that this model has the best filters for people suffering from allergies. However, I will briefly mention the fact that this is a Dyson HEPA filter vacuum.
Keep in mind that before the first use, you will have to let it charge for at least 4 hours.
- Works on multiple surfaces;
- Very lightweight;
- Easy to maneuver;
- HEPA filters.
- You need to wait for it to recharge;
- Doesn’t come cheap.

7. Kenmore Elite 81714
I am very picky and for me, even the design of a vacuum cleaner is really important. So, when I find an elegant model, I know how to appreciate it. This is one of the reasons why the Kenmore Elite 81714 vacuum cleaner is among my top 12.
However, if it were just pretty and not effective it would have not been here. Therefore, let's see what this pretty-boy can offer.
The first thing I want to highlight is the fact that it is a bagged canister model that is designed to work on all areas of your house. This means that you can use it to clean your living room, your kitchen and why not your garage.
It does very well when it comes to pet hair and it eliminates even the fibers that are stubborn and hard to pick. Moreso, it will not permit any tangling around the brush.
The only thing you should keep in mind is that the pile height adjustment is not automated so you will need to do it manually.
Of course, at a filtration level, the Kenmore Elite 81714 has everything you need, specifically a HEPA filter system.
- Has a 2-motor system;
- Good for pet hair removal;
- It comes with accessories.
- It can be considered expensive.
8. Miele Complete C3
If you are looking for a premium vacuum cleaner that comes packed with HEPA filters then you most definitely need to check out this Miele Complete C3.
Even though this model is very powerful, it also makes little noise, so you will be able to use it even if you have a baby sleeping in the house. All this is possible because it comes equipped with a 1200W vortex motor.
So, if you suffer from asthma, maybe you should consider buying it, even if the price exceeds your initial calculations. The reason I say this is that the Miele Complete C3 doesn't only come with a HEPA filtration system, but it also has a particular specialty known as 'AirClean Sealed System Construction' that will not permit any allergen to escape.
- Premium features;
- Recommended for asthma suffering people.
- Very expensive.

9. Dyson Ball Allergy Complete
It is almost impossible to be a grown-up looking for a vacuum cleaner and not hear about the famous Dyson Cinetic big ball animal plus allergy remover. I will admit that its popularity is well deserved because not only this is a very powerful and effective vacuum cleaner, but it is also very complex.
It is my personal belief that one of the ugliest parts of cleaning the house is not the vacuuming itself, but the process of emptying the dirt bin. Actually, this is an aspect in which Dyson Upright Ball excels.
But let me start from the beginning and tell you that this model has a very good suction power (250 AW) that will let you take out all the dust from your floor. Also, it is slightly flexible, so maneuvering it will be easy.
I mentioned earlier its bin emptying systems, so I will admit that even only for this, the Dyson vacuum cleaner in the discussion is worth its money. You just need to press a button and all the dust will be removed, without touching anything.
- Excellent bin emptying system;
- Sucks very thin particles;
- Great big reach.
- Not ideal for carpets.

10. Vacmaster HEPA Vac
(Best for Garage Cleaning)
Cleaning a garage is not the most pleasant thing in the world. Also, for people suffering from allergies, this place can be a pain to enter is not cleaned properly.
Because of this, I want to present the Vacmaster HEPA Vac that will assist you when taking care of your garage and the allergens that live there.
So, this model is an 8 Gallon Wet and Dry Vac that works using a HEPA filtration system. To be more exact, it has 4 stages of filtration. This means that among the HEPA filter, it also has a microfiber pre-filter, a very efficient fine dust bag, and an exhaust filter.
Moreso, it comes with a 2-stage industrial motor that is not only powerful but also quiet.
Even though it is listed as a commercial vac, I truly recommend it for home use, especially if you live in a house and not a small flat.
- Amazing filtration system;
- Very good price;
- Not too noisy.
- It can be hard to maneuver it inside a house.
Vacmaster made a presentational video that you can see below:
11. Shark Rotator NV752
If you are looking for a vacuum cleaner with the best warranty, then the Shark NV752 is the one for you. It has a 7 years limited warranty. Of course, this is not its only quality or else would not be here.
It has a lift-away unit, that will permit you to clean the upholstery area just as with a canister vacuum cleaner.
As you can easily imagine, this model has a HEPA filtration system, so I will not linger too much on this aspect. I will, however, say that it comes with multiple accessories such as an upholstery tool, a specialized brush for pet hair and a crevice tool.
Due to its long cord (30 feet), you can clean the house without moving too often from one plug to another. Lastly, it comes equipped with LED headlights that will help you see even in the dim parts of the house.
- Amazing warranty;
- LED headlights;
- Easy to maneuver;
- Can also clean upholstery.
- Can be considered expensive.
12. Kenmore Elite 31150
(Best for Pet Hair)
I left the Kenmore Elite 31150 model for last, not because it is not as good as the previous one but because it will mostly be appreciated by people who have pets.
There are many vacuum cleaners that state they are created for pet owners, but it is my personal opinion there is no better one when that also has HEPA filters. Actually, this model is even AAFA certified.
First of all, this product will work on any surface you will need to clean. Yes, this also covers the outsides of your home.
The reason why I insist to say it is the best for pet hair is given by its air-driven turbine that rotates the roller brush and removes the stubborn pet hair from your couch, carpets and even car seats, for the matter.
- It never loses suction;
- Triple HEPA filtration system;
- Great for pet hair.
- Not very lightweight;
- It is not very quiet.

Buying Guide for the best HEPA Shop Vacuum Experience
Knowing which are the best models of hypoallergenic vacuum cleaners is not enough to make the correct decision. You need more factors to take into consideration that knowing some characteristics. This is why I have created this next buying guide. So, let's start and see how to pick the best model for your needs.
When deciding on the next vacuum purchase, the first aspect you need to think about is the type of vac you want. As you could have already seen, these vacuum cleaners come in any kind of size and shape.
You can choose a stick, a canister or an upright one depending on your preferences. I will take each model at a time, to remind you of the differences between types.
So, if you intend to pick a canister vacuum cleaner, you should know that these models are more lightweight and also quieter than upright models. Also, since they are corded, they have more power than sticks, therefore they are more effective.
If your house has delicate floors and you are not a fan of heavy appliances, then you should definitely pick a canister model. However, they also have some minuses, such as requiring a bending position when using them.
Therefore, if you have a problem with your back, you should check out upright or stick vacuum cleaners. Of course, sticks are only used when surface cleaning is needed. For more in-depth vacuuming, you will need an upright model that is powerful and versatile.
Bagged or Bagless
After deciding on the type of vacuum cleaner you would like to use, it is time to balance another very important aspect - how do you wish to deposit the debris? In the end, there are 2 big categories for each type of vacuum cleaner. So, is it going to be a bagged or a bagless vac? Let's take each one and see what characteristics they have.
The first category contains the bagged ones. And just as their name implies, the bagged vacuum cleaners have a bag to store the dirt. These bags have a sealing mechanism that will keep them tightly shut while functioning. This means that they will only let the dirt enter. The bag needs to be removed and replaced when full.
These models will not let the user get in contact with any dust particle when replacing the bag. This is a great advantage for people suffering from allergies.
However, their minus is that you will need to invest periodically into bags, so the maintenance costs will always be an issue.
On the other hand, bagless vacs are becoming extremely popular among users worldwide. Even though theoretically, you can come in contact with allergens when cleaning the dust cup, manufacturers have worked out solutions to solve this issue.
For example, the HEPA filters will take care of the residual air which is exhausted by the vacuum. There are also bagless vacuum cleaners that have dirt disposal made in such a way that you will not get in contact with any particle when cleaning it.
Of course, these hypoallergenic bagless models can come at a bigger price compared to others, but remember that you only have to pay it once compared to the bagged ones.
However, you should be 100% sure the bagless vacuum cleaner that you buy is suited for people with allergies. This takes the discussion to another aspect you need to consider when choosing a vac.
This is another very important, if not the most important, aspect to consider when purchasing a hypoallergenic vacuum cleaner.
As you can imagine, technology today allows you to choose from multiple filtration options. These alternatives include effective filters such as air-purifying or even water filters. However, the most used filtration, which is also the most reliable one is HEPA.
As discussed at the beginning of this article, HEPA filters retain more than 99% of very thin particles. Even though most allergens will fall in this size classification, not every vacuum cleaner comes packed with a HEPA filter, so if you suffer from very dangerous allergies, be sure to but a model equipped with this kind of filter.
However, if you don't need a very great level of filtration, then maybe you should pick a cheaper version.
As you can see, there are many vacuum cleaner models from which you can choose if you suffer from allergies. The secret here is to pick the right one for you and your needs and you will see how easy life will become.
Now, tell me. Do you have a favorite brand or why not one that you felt disappointed with? Use the comment section below and let me know all the details. I would love to change opinions regarding the topic.
